When we took a cab from the train station to the hostel the night before. We booked a cab to pick us up the next morning. The cab driver said we only had to be there 25 mins before our flight. We didn't take his advice since we are anal and wanted to be there early. Well we were there 1.5 hours early and we were the last people on our flight to check in. It was very strange. We didn't need to go through security. The lady checking us in just said go sit somewhere in the airport and then later should would come get us. We were of course worried that she would forget us and we would miss our flight. So we kept an eye out for her. So eventually she rounded us all up and we went through this unmarked door and it took us out directly onto the tarmac and then we got right on the plane. It was quite strange. It is the way I wish flying would be all the time. Air North was great. It was pretty casual and pretty good service for such a small plane.

Our flight made a stop in Dawson City before going down to Whitehorse. This airport was the smallest airport I have ever been in. We all had to get off the plane to go through Canada Customs which consisted of an agent standing at a small podium as we walked in the back door of this one room airport. It was some people's last stop. So we got to see them pick up their luggage. They opened this little trap door and just shoved the luggage into the room. What else was crazy was one guy showed up to join our flight 5 mins before we left. The picture below is what is left from when they used to strip mine for gold. I guess they had these big diggers and they would just dig up all the dirt looking for gold and then leave it like that. It's too bad we didn't have some more time to visit Dawson City.
We made in to Whitehorse just in time for BreeAnne's stagette. The girls went on a booze cruise on the Yukon River and then went out the one of the local bars for some Karaoke. I kept myself occupied by seeing both movies playing in Whitehorse.

Since we now had a rental car. We decided to make the most of it and take one of the most beautiful drives in the world. We drove from Whitehorse to Skagway and it truly is an amazing drive. The scenery is constantly changing and around every corner is a new surprise. I think we stopped at almost every roadside turnout.
This is Emerald Lake. On this day it didn't look too green. But it can be a really deep shade of emerald green. Hence the name.
This is the Carcross Desert. There is a tiny desert in the middle of all these mountains and lakes. Crazy!

This is the cute little town of Skagway. The main street has old "frontierish" looking buildings. It was the 4th of July so it was pretty busy. We didn't arrive to later in the day so I think we missed most of the party. But I guess they beat the Guinness World Record for most people in an egg toss. If only we could have been there a little earlier we could have been world record holders. There was also a cruise ship in town so there were a lot of "cruisers" in town. "Cruisers" are a special breed of older, extra loud, tacky American's.
Below you may wonder what I am holding. Well we bought this beautiful mountain print of a local Yukon artist. You can see it if you come visit our house.
