Friedrichsbad with BreeAnne (aka the Naked Spa)

Baden-Baden - Monday July 9, 2007

We wasted no time after returning from Kassel and headed out to Baden-Baden to spend some time soaking our stress away at Friedrichsbad. Check out this link to see more pictures and to read more about it. BreeAnne's luggage was lost en-route, and although she dealt with it amazingly, she especially needed a treat.

Here is an excerpt from the Friedrichsbad website...

"Situated at the foot of the Altstadt, a combination of Roman and Irish bathing traditions have been enjoyed here for the past 125 years. And it’s not simply the baths that work wonders. Even the elaborate frescoes, that decorate the awe-inspiring central dome, provide a sensory treat for body and soul...Experience sheer bathing bliss in an invigorating 16 step ritual. The changing temperatures and varying baths, with their precious thermal waters, guarantee a feeling of total relaxation. Make sure you opt for the soap & brush massage. It’s well worth it! After, you’ll feel like a new pin! Even the famous American novelist, Mark Twain, described his experience here in a letter to a friend: “Here at the Friedrichsbad you lose track of time within 10 minutes and track of the world within 20....”

They don't actually mention that everyone is naked in the website. I guess they take it for granted. Or we prudish North Americans take it for granted that people would be wearing bathing suits in a sauna. Anyway, everyone is naked and it just wouldn't be the same otherwise! We consider gettin nekid in a spa with us a "must" for our visitors now.

As you can imagine I didn't take any pictures once we were inside but here is what it looks like on the outside:
BreeAnne and Toby "Before". I think they're a bit nervous.

And "After". See, it wasn't so bad. In fact it was fabulous. Notice how "ultra relaxed" they are.

A delicious and very "German" dinner afterwards. Look how squeaky clean and shiny we are.

We were so ultra-relaxed in fact that we were all dozing on the train back. Definitely got our moneys worth. What a great way to kick off BreeAnne's visit!
