The Family Invasion continues...

Wednesday December 19th, 2007

What a busy day! We started the day early and took a regional train to Stuttgart. We used a Baden-Württemburg ticket which allowed us all to travel on regional trains with one, low cost ticket. Definitely worth looking into if you are traveling to Germany.

We met up with my mom's cousin Hildegard.

It is getting colder. We saw ice for the first time since moving here.

The Stuttgart Opera House (I think)

Our lovely tourguide, showing us the way.

The Neues Schloss.

Entering the Christmas Market.

Lunch at the Ratskeller, a restaurant in the basement of the Rathaus or city hall.

A picturesque spot for a kids train.

Wie schön. (How nice!)

Dad carried this suitcase around the Christmas market. It contains gifts for the relatives we were going to see in the afternoon.

After a bit of a confusing start, we met up with my mom's cousin Peter at the train station in Ludwigsburg, where they live. Peter and his family are related on my Opa's side of the family and we haven't met many relatives on that side. They gave us a very warm welcome in their home. Peter's wife Valentina cooked us a wonderful meal and we enjoyed catching up, hearing more of the family history and looking at old pictures.

Here are all the younger generation together. My mom has more photos on her camera, which I will add when I can.

Olga (second from the left above) was sweet enough to give us a ride to the Stuttgart train station but we just missed a train (by one minute!). We treated ourselves to a hot drink.

Today we took it easy and recuperated from the last few days. Mom and dad hit the Christmas market and found some things to fill up their empty suitcases with. Laura and I did some laundry, shopping, tried Glühbier (hot cherry beer, delish) and visited the naked spa.

Tomorrow we are off to Paris and need to be at the train station at 7:30 AM! Yikes. Better get packing! Be back in a few days!
