Mountain Biking in Offenburg

Sunday October 14, 2007

Toby's coworker Mario invited us to go mountain biking with him. "Nothing too difficult?" Toby asked. Yes, Mario agreed, nothing too difficult.

Well bless his heart and quads of steel, but Mario has a different idea of "not too difficult" than I do and after nearly giving me a heart attack in the first twenty minutes, Mario wisely scaled back to a less steeply inclined, gorgeous route through some vineyards near his hometown of Offenburg.

I think the photos really speak for themselves. It was an absolutely gorgeous day with perfect mild Autumn weather and amazing views.

We stopped for lunch in this restaurant and small winery. We met Mario's girlfriend Mandy and her son Lewis there and they continued on with us from there.

After lunch we peddled on further to this castle, Schloß Ortenberg. It reminded me of a sandcastle. It is also a youth hostel and seems like it would be a great place to spend the night.

After our castle visit we coasted down into town for the largest, most delicious ice cream cone I've had since we arrived.

What a great end to a perfect day!
